Very happy with the service and food they provided. Customer service is top notch! Have had a lot of Chinese food throughout the years and this by far, is one of the best places I’ve been to. Authentic and taste great! Will be back again!
One of the best Chinese restaurant in the area. The dishes are not only delicious but large portion. Prices are also very fair.
Delicious food!
Highly impressed, stopped by this place while waiting to meet up for an item exchange. Figured this would be like any other restaurants with typical selections and bland food. We ordered the Yangzhou fried rice and home style lamb in hot pot. The lamb in bone were very tasty full of flavor and right amount of spice, well balanced with mushroom and plenty of meat. The fried rice had mixture of shrimp, ham, and chicken. Staff was friendly and environment was nice. All in all would definitely come back.
Good! Very authentic, if you like that sort of thing. Some dishes may be a little weird for some.
Great dumplings good hot pot. Good food.
Awesome food. I don't do 5 stars unless it's a completely mind-blowing experience, but this place is great and I've never had bad food here. The lamb with scallions is one of my favorites. Portion sizes are good for the price, and there are lots of flavors other than just salty, which is a problem I sometimes have with takeout.
Very much don’t like the food quality here. Flavors are not good for me and I’m a big Asian food fan.
If you're American, come hoping to eat something new. This authentic restaurant will not dissapoint an adventurous eater. Look for the specials and trust the cooks. Of you're looking for basic American Chinese, look elsewhere.
We are really lucky in Ames to be able to eat a number of authentic foods from around the world. One of my favorites is the 夫妻肺片 at the Szechuan House. Be bold and give it a try!
Fantastic food. I had too much of crapy Chinese food before that I almost gave up on it but this place rocks! Very authentic apparently and I liked it. Will go there more often for sure. I shall say that this place is a bit more expensive than other Chinese restaurants but the food is significantly better.
Amazing food and the team adapted well to the covid with a safe « grab and go » well done !
Huge food portions for reasonable cost. Delicious and freshly made food.
Good food. Good service. Thank you for accommodating our party of 10 at the last minute when a different restaurant we planned on going flatly turned down our business. We appreciate the separate room, the fantastic service and attention to details.
Ever since Szechuan House opened in Ames, I haven't frequented any other Chinese places in Ames (except for Panda Express when i want some orange chicken and Beijing beef). Although their food prices are quite high for Ames standards (unless you frequent The Cafe and Aunt Maudes), their portion is also quite large and is suitable for family-style dining. Szechuan House does live up to their name and serves very good/authentic Szechuan cuisine. If you don't know what this means, just beware of the evil little "hua jiao" that will leave an exquisite tingling sensation on your tongue. Pretty much over half of the menu is spicy, and there are some fairly authentic Chinese ingredients (like animal innards) that might deter your typical American diner. The staff is very friendly and the service is lightning quick. There is a private dining room available, but I've never inquired as how to reserve the space given that the main dining space is more than sufficient for my past visits.
The sesame chicken is my favorite thing to order in the whole town 👌👌👌👍👍👍💯💯💯👏👏👏😩😩😩🤙🤙🤙
On a annual business trip and discovering new places and restaurants. This is a Beautiful place. Food tasted delicious. I had red curry shrimp. The curry was hot and spicy. Thank you.
Delicious food and great service.
Would highly recomend this place to anyone looking for large authentic portions and a friendly wait staff. The Crab Rangoon here is amazing, well everything I have had here has been amazing! The staff is excellent and super friendly as well as patient. They are happy to explain any questions you have about any of the dishes!
Impressed by the crispy spicy chicken, almost exactly what I was hoping it would be
I'm never disappointed and always content.
Really excellent lo mein and fried rice. Menu is very diverse, service is excellent
Food beyond the Americanized Chinese dishes (though you can get them too). Great place to get a spicy dish of food. Excited to someday try the hot pot. Clean restaurant. Giant portions! This is our go-to spot for takeout, I highly recommend Szechuan House😁.
Yeah, I'm kind of 50/50 about this place. Comparing it to other hot pot I've had, I wasn't super impressed. I can't say it was horrible, but it was not incredible for me.Everything was just too oily for me, and they brought us the wrong assortment of meats without telling us (think they were looking to offload some Lamb that want going to be good much longer).I feel like I probably wouldn't have remembered this place if not for writing this review... So not horrible, but not worthwhile to me. There are better places to eat in town, and I should hope there's better hotpot somewhere either in Ames or Des Moines.
Best Chinese I've ever had.
Extensive menu excellent food.
The Szechuan House is an amazing place to eat. Don't let the unassuming atmosphere cloud your expectations of their freshly prepared food. Just today I had the lunch portion of Kung Pao chicken and a shared pot sticker appetizer. The flavors of they food are amazing! What else can you ask for besides quick lunch service, and fantastic food?
Our first time here and it was great. Quickly seating, service was exceptional, and while one order was messed up, they offered to make it right. We'll definitely be back!
Excellent hot pot dishes. Very authentic and delicious food at good price. They deliver too!
It smells amazing as soon as you walk in, and the food on everyone else's tables made me super hungry! Superb food, don't be afraid to ask for something to be made less spicy. Service was amazingly fast and friendly. Also there is actually meat in the orange chicken! If you've eaten other places in town you know what I mean. We will definitely be back.
Very vast menu which is hard to navigate, friendly staff, delicious food.
Excellent food and quick service. Flexible on variations like no onions. Reasonable price. I can specifically recommend the scrumptious curries.
An Eat Street driver delivered my food. When he was pulling the bag out, it ripped from being soggy with sauce at the bottom. Something had spilt on accident in the bag. Called them about it, and they gave re made my order with no charge. Always have had great food also.
Large menu, authentic pan Asian food, good taste and value
The shrimp, green beans, and the egg rolls are all awesome! Super flavorful
The Kung Pao chicken is so good!
Great food. They have a good variety and even exotic dishes if you dare to try.
Price is a little expensive but the quality and quantity are both excellent. It is one of the most authentic Szechuan restaurants in the area!
Returned to Szechuan House today. It was very tasty, had the 3 pepper beef, with 3 ingredient pot stickers, everything was delicious, especially the beef. Not overcooked, had a salty crust to it which made it awesome in my mind. Peppers were fresh and crunchy, nothing looked old and brown. Three ingedient potstickers means 3 different types, pork, vegetable, and a mixture of pork/shrimp, sauce was very good. Only complaints were main course came before appetizer, awkward, and waitress forgot about us, (should refill drinks), overall not bad visit...
My boyfriend and I come here every week so the people always recognize us. They are very accommodating when it comes to ordering vegan for my significant other. Every new dish I try is a flavorful experience. Food is brought out quickly and so hot sometimes you can hear it still sizzling. Szechuan House is super reliable when you want authentic, affordable, and amazing food. :D
I always love this place. Try out the crispy shrimp here it’s mouth watering. Also try out fish is hot chili oil. It’s one of the best I had in this town.
Best Asian cuisine in Ames. The restaurant is nice but no frills. Very big portions. Highly recommend the pot stickers and the crab Rangoon. Will be back to try the hot pot.
Good Szechuan restaurant. Dine in or carry out. Very spicy food.
Easily the best Chinese in Ames. The poached fish in chili oil is one of the best meals I've ever had. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices for high quality food.
Tried the shredded potato with sweet and sour sauce! I love the bubble tea here. Amazing ambience. Good portions.
Excellent fare. I have been in a couple of times but find myself ordering their delivery several times a month. Both versions of their service have been surprisingly fast and well-mannered. They don't overcook their seafood--that's been hard to find around here. I've tried a dozen or so dishes. I am not terribly fond of their pad thai, but I have thoroughly enjoyed everything else I've tried. Oh, well, can't win them all.
This is my go to Asian food location. They have many of the normal dishes that Americans like but also had dishes for those who are more adventurous. Watch out for the spicy and crispy chicken so good and so so spicy. They have been doing a great job of takeout during Covid-19 also. Differently a must try if you in Ames,IA and looking for so Asian food!!!
It was plentiful and very good customer services
I love the hotpot in Szechuan House.I recommend fish slices! It's really fresh and tasty.
Highly recommend the dry beef hotpot!
